Instituto Superior Técnico and the Municipality of Oeiras have established a partnership for the 2026/2027 edition of the “Experimenta o Técnico” programme, through which the municipality will provide financial support for the participation of young people who study or have studied in the Oeiras municipality in the initiative.
The collaboration between the Municipality of Oeiras and Instituto Superior Técnico aims to:
- Promote equal opportunities in access to the programme;
- Support young people from the municipality with strong potential and interest in STEM fields;
- Strengthen the link between secondary education, higher education and research;
- Enhance the value of Técnico’s Oeiras campus as a scientific and educational asset of the municipality;
- Contribute to the development of scientific and technological vocations among students;
- Support young people in making more informed decisions about their academic and professional path;
- Reinforce Oeiras’ position as a territory of science, technology, knowledge and innovation.
Who can benefit from the support
The following may apply for municipal support:
- Students attending the 12th year, in the 2026/2027 school year, at schools in the Oeiras municipality, who are beneficiaries of tiers A and B of School Social Support (ASE);
- Former students who completed the 12th year in the 2025/2026 school year at schools in the Oeiras municipality, who are beneficiaries of tiers A and B of School Social Support (ASE).
What the support consists of
The Municipality of Oeiras co-funds the costs of application, tuition, registration and school insurance for the programme, totalling €2,560 per student. The amount of the contribution varies according to each participant’s School Social Support (ASE) tier:
- Tier A: municipal contribution of 100% (€2,560), with no cost to the student;
- Tier B: municipal contribution of 50% (€1,280), with the student covering the remaining amount.
The municipal contribution takes the form of institutional support to Instituto Superior Técnico to partially or fully cover the participation costs of eligible students.
The municipal contribution will be calculated once the selection and admission process for participants is complete, and after validation of the eligibility criteria and the respective ASE tiers.
Municipal support will not be granted to candidates who are not admitted to the programme or who fail to prove compliance with the eligibility criteria set out in this proposal.
How to apply
Applications to the programme continue to be made directly with Instituto Superior Técnico, in accordance with the selection criteria defined by Técnico. The Municipality does not interfere in the selection of candidates, and is responsible only for validating the eligibility criteria for the municipal support.

To validate eligibility for the municipal support, admitted candidates must submit the following documents by 31 October:
- Proof of attendance/completion of secondary education (12th year) at a school located in the Oeiras municipality;
- A declaration confirming the respective ASE tier, issued by the Social Security Institute;
- For former students, a declaration confirming the ASE tier for the last year of secondary education attended.
Following the selection and admission process, the granting of municipal support will be subject to confirmation of eligibility and to confirmation, by Instituto Superior Técnico, of the costs actually owed by eligible participants.
The partnership will thus bring together the programme’s scientific and educational dimension with a municipal component promoting equal opportunities, reinforcing Oeiras’ commitment to the qualification of its young people and to the value of science, technology and innovation as drivers of the territory’s development.
